It is with great sadness I have to announce the sudden passing of my brother Martyn.
For those that wish to attend his funeral it will be held at:
Hanworth Crematorium (TW13 5JH) Monday 30th June 2025 @ 12.20 with a small wake at a local pub afterwards to celebrate Martyn’s life.
For those that can’t make it we will be having a small wake at Poppyland Brewery, Cromer on Sunday 06 July between 13.30 – 16.30.

My commiserations – I had met Martyn many times over the years, A lovely man, and the leading British beer writer without doubt. As a British beer historian he was in a class of his own.
It is a grim irony that he died just before his magnum opus was published, so he never got to see the culmination of many years’ work.
I can’t make the funeral, but I shall be thinking about Martyn.
My best wishes to you and the whole of his family. Very sad.
It is bittersweet having just received my copy of Porter and Stout. I am looking forward to a good read.
I know Martyn, if he sees this will be in the Valhalla of beer brewing saying, “Cheers.”
Thank you Mr. Cornell for your years of diligent study and delightful sharing of your knowledge of beer and how it is has been made and changed over time.
Peace,
